NATIVE is one of three of Ras Alan's albums housed in the Permanent Archives of the Smithsonian Institution, representing "Contemporary Southern Appalachian Music and Culture".
The album includes "Many Names," "Textile Town" "Live it Up, Rasta!" and "Risin' Sun". The song "Herb Revenooer" featured on the album was the most requested song for a time on KPRG Guam radio and western North Carolina's "Dub Atomic Particles" on WNCW fm.
NATIVE was recorded in analog (for the serious bass and drum sounds, plus it was 1992!) at Beechwood Recording Studios, Weaverville, NC. Ras Alan and his touring and recording band, THE LIONS, recorded all original material they had been performing on tour in 1992. The tightness and excitement is well evident. The bass, drums, keyboard and guitar "riddim" section recorded live simultaneously, with the vocals, saxophones, harmonica, melodica, percussion and guitar solos added. |
